WWE 2K26 is preparing to add a very rare version of Rey Mysterio through its upcoming Ringside Pass Season 3. This version comes from his WCW days and is returning to the spotlight after nearly 27 years. The news has created excitement among wrestling fans, especially those who enjoyed the classic WCW era.
Released in March 2026, WWE 2K26 has already gained attention because of its massive roster. The game includes more than 370 WWE superstars and legends. Alongside current stars like Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, players can also use legendary wrestlers such as The Undertaker and “Macho Man” Randy Savage.
Now, Visual Concepts and 2K have officially confirmed that Rey Mysterio’s Filthy Animals version will join the game in Season 3. This character is based on Mysterio’s 1999 WCW appearance, where he wore denim overalls and a skullcap-style look. During that time, the Filthy Animals faction also included future WWE Hall of Fame stars like Eddie Guerrero and Torrie Wilson.
However, fans have also noticed a problem with the new character model. Many players pointed out that Rey Mysterio did not wear a mask during his Filthy Animals run, but WWE 2K26 shows him wearing a black mask. In reality, Mysterio removed his mask in 1999 after losing a tag match and did not wear one again until joining WWE in 2002.
Because of this, some fans believe the character is not historically accurate. Even so, many players are still excited to see this rare WCW-inspired Rey Mysterio variant appear in the game, since it has rarely been featured before.
Ringside Pass Season 3 will include more than just Rey Mysterio. The update is also bringing new characters such as Matt Cardona, Brian Pillman, and La Parka. In addition, a 2001 version of Kane based on the Brothers of Destruction era will also be added.
WWE 2K26 also has plenty more content planned for the coming months. Season 4 will introduce the Hardy Boyz, Lady Shani, and rapper Jelly Roll. After that, Season 5 will feature Danhausen, while Season 6 will add wrestlers like Earthquake, Typhoon, and Royce Keys. This means the already large WWE 2K26 roster will continue growing with future updates.
