Valor Mortis, the new first-person action game from One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner, is now available on Steam. Set in an alternate version of the Napoleonic era, the game puts players against horrifying mutants in a dark world shaped by war and supernatural threats.
The developers say the game has an approximately 20-hour campaign, with bosses, environments, and quests added during development following feedback from an earlier playtest and demo.
Valor Mortis Brings Soulslike Combat to First-Person
One of the main ideas behind Valor Mortis is its first-person take on Soulslike combat. Players take up arms in a twisted Napoleonic-era setting, using swords and bayonets to fight the mutated enemies standing in their way.
The story follows a soldier who gets a second chance after dying while serving his Emperor. Now, he must fight through the horrors that have taken hold of his world.
The developers say they wanted to prove that Soulslike combat could work from a first-person perspective, rather than relying on the usual third-person view seen in many games in the genre.
Developers Improved the Game After Player Feedback
Valor Mortis has been through an open Steam playtest and a demo released in June. According to One More Level, player feedback helped the team make several improvements over the past few months.
The developers say the game is now more polished and better optimized, with a smoother difficulty curve. They have also added more bosses, environments, and quests to expand the campaign.
These changes come after roughly three years of development, making Valor Mortis the studio’s biggest game so far.
Major Story DLC Planned for 2027
One More Level has also confirmed plans for a major story DLC in 2027. The expansion will explore a new adventure in the world of Valor Mortis while retaining the dark tone, characters, and intrigue of the main campaign.

Players who purchase the Deluxe Edition also receive cosmetic weapon skin packs. The first of these can already be unlocked, with more details tied to the edition’s included content.
The studio has not provided a specific release date for the upcoming story DLC in this announcement.
