Overwatch 2 Season 5, titled A Grim Doctrine, is now live, bringing a new Support Hero, a new Escort map, a Halloween event, major Hero changes, and more content for players to check out.
The new season also marks the next chapter of the Reign of Talon storyline, with the action moving to an Icelandic prison that once held both Doctrine and Doomfist.
New Support Hero Doctrine Arrives
The biggest addition in Season 5 is Doctrine, a new Support Hero who was freed from his volcanic prison by Doomfist.
Doctrine uses an Eternal Scepter and mechanical drones to manipulate life during combat. His abilities can also be empowered through his signature Infuse mechanic.
The new Hero is now available alongside the launch of Season 5.
Watchpoint: Grímsvötn Is the New Escort Map
Season 5 also introduces Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, an Icelandic prison facility connected to Doctrine and Doomfist.
The map is the first new Escort map added since Overwatch 2 launched. Players will fight through a setting built around fire and ice as the Reign of Talon storyline moves into its next chapter.
Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games Brings Halloween Chaos
Halloween content is returning with a new event called Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games.
Players start each match as a random Hero. Every time they die, they unlock another random power, making each round play out differently.
Completing the event’s challenges lets players collect Offerings, which are used to help summon the next Hero into the madness.
Sombra Moves to Support
Season 5 also makes a major change to Sombra, who is moving into the Support role.
This changes how the Hero fits into team compositions and gives players a different way to use Sombra during matches.
Roadhog is also getting a combat overhaul, with a revamped Scrap Gun and a new ability called Trash Compactor.
New Cosmetics and Mythic Items
Players can unlock new cosmetics throughout the season through the Ultimate Battle Pass, Starter Pack, and Shop.
The season also includes Dokiwatch 2.0, the latest collaboration, along with a new Mythic skin for Wuyang and a Mythic weapon skin for Lúcio.
More Changes Coming During Season 5
The launch is only the start of the season’s content. Blizzard also has more changes planned, including Drives coming to Quick Play and Unvaulted Battle Passes.
Season 5: A Grim Doctrine is now live in Overwatch 2, giving players a new Support Hero, a new Escort map, Halloween content, Hero changes, and additional cosmetics to work through during the season.
