Battlefield 6 is heading into its second year of content, and Season 5 will bring a number of changes to the game’s core gameplay as well as REDSEC.
The Battlefield team has shared an early look at what it is testing for Season 5, including vehicle balance changes, gunplay adjustments, new Battle Royale features, class changes, and weapon updates. The team also shared a few areas it is looking at for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC in 2027.
Battlefield 6 Season 5 Changes
Season 5 marks the start of Year 2 for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. Some of the changes being tested will affect both games.
Vehicle combat is getting another round of adjustments. Vehicle health regeneration and damage are being changed to give infantry more chances to take advantage of good positioning and flanking.
The anti-air systems are also being adjusted. Mobile anti-air cannons will be more effective against aircraft, while laser designators will require players to keep their aim on targets more consistently to maintain a lock.
There are more gunplay changes in testing as well. Weapon attachments are getting another tuning pass, while some weapons, gadgets, and player poses are getting animation updates.
Vehicle balance is also being changed in several areas. The Little Bird will deal less splash damage to infantry, secondary turrets will get a higher rate of fire but overheat faster, and Main Battle Tank munitions are being adjusted against their intended targets. Missiles are also getting a balance pass.
Another change affects vehicle resupply pads. Their cooldowns will become specific to each vehicle class, meaning a jet won’t have to wait for a helicopter that recently used the same pad.
REDSEC Is Getting New Battle Royale Changes
Season 5 will also bring several changes to REDSEC’s Battle Royale mode.
Ranked matchmaking bands are being adjusted to create more accurate skill brackets. A reconnect feature is also being tested, which should allow players to return to an ongoing Battle Royale match after an unexpected crash or disconnect.
Casual Battle Royale players will get recommended drop zones. The system will point newer players toward certain points of interest and nearby loot while helping them avoid immediate squad fights.
Armor mechanics and application speeds are also being increased.
The game’s class system is getting a number of changes as well. The Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternate training paths are being removed, while other class abilities and starting options are being changed.
For example, Engineers will start matches with the Aim-Guided Launcher function unlocked. Support’s Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher are moving into the loot pool, with Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover taking their places.
Recon’s Drone is also moving into the loot pool, while the Handheld Jammer will take its place.
Class Training Paths Are Being Reworked
Each REDSEC class will have new tactical upgrades through its training paths.
Assault will get improvements to movement while firing, faster health regeneration, changes to its High Explosive Launcher, and faster class gadget resupply.
Engineers will receive increased resistance to explosive damage, faster armor replating, and an Aim-Guided Launcher upgrade that can immobilize vehicles.
Support will get better weapon control from mounted positions, faster revives and dragging, plus armor-related bonuses when reviving teammates or placing Deployable Cover.
Recon’s upgrades include enemy spotting after dealing damage, wider spotting after downing an enemy, and new uses for the Handheld Jammer.
More Weapon and Loot Changes Are Coming
REDSEC’s weapon balance is also being adjusted, with changes planned for weapons including the KTS100 Mk8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG553R, and KV9.
Several weapon categories will require an additional bullet to kill against armor at certain distances. The changes affect 10mm and 9mm PDWs, .300BLK Carbines, 7.62x39mm weapons, 5.56x45mm weapons, 5.45x39mm weapons, and 7.62mm DMRs.
Previously class-locked gadgets will also be added to the loot pool. These include the Smoke Launcher, Supply Bag, Defibrillator, Breaching Dart, and Anti-Drone Gun.
EA says a more detailed breakdown will be provided when the full update notes are released shortly before Season 5 begins.
Battlefield 6 Is Also Looking Ahead to 2027
Season 5 is only the start of the second year of content for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC.
The team is already testing further changes for 2027, including more work on vehicle gameplay and gunplay. It is also reviewing gadgets and vehicle explosives to make sure their size, power, and effectiveness remain balanced with the rest of the game.
An improved firing range is being tested, along with visual and animation updates across the game’s weapons.
The team is also looking at the balance of bolt-action sniper rifles and ways for players to fight back against them.
One important point is that the Season 5 changes mentioned here are still being tested. The Battlefield team says features can be changed, delayed, or removed depending on the results from Battlefield Labs and player feedback.
More details will be shared when the full Season 5 update notes are released.
