Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has recently hinted that future updates may further expand character customization in the game. While he did not share specific details, he confirmed that the development team has already laid the groundwork for additional options. Alongside this, several long-standing player requests have also been acknowledged for future consideration.
These comments surfaced shortly after the release of Patch 7.4, titled “Into the Mist,” which launched on December 16. The update introduced new main scenario quests exploring the Ninth Shard, concluded the Arcadion raid series, and delivered job balance changes, including unexpected adjustments for Gunbreaker and Red Mage. However, the update was also affected by ongoing server issues in North America, with random disconnections across multiple data centers. A Christmas Day patch resolved some bugs, but server stability problems persisted.
During the 48th Korean Live Letter, Yoshida addressed questions regarding both the global and Korean versions of Final Fantasy 14. He confirmed that expanded character customization is being prepared, while changes to Explorer Mode and vendor access for older relic weapons are also under review. He added that the Korean version will reach parity with the global and Chinese versions by Patch 7.5, expected in spring 2026, which will also introduce the next Ultimate raid and the Beastmaster Limited Job.
In a separate Q&A session with players on Japan’s Pandaemonium server, Yoshida stated that skin tone and color adjustments are among the customization elements being explored. He also suggested that a Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 14 could happen in the future, advising players to watch upcoming FanFest events for official announcements. The North American FanFest is scheduled for April 24–25, 2026, in Anaheim, California.
Meanwhile, players can participate in the Heavensturn seasonal event until January 15, featuring Year of the Horse-themed rewards. Discounted items from previous Heavensturn events are also available on the Online Store until January 8.
The next expansion’s name and release window are expected to be revealed at FanFest. Yoshida has previously described the game’s future as a potential “second rebirth,” making 2026 an important year for Final Fantasy 14 despite Dawntrail still having one major patch remaining.
