Recent unofficial updates from well-known gaming insiders suggest that remasters or remakes of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas may be in development. These claims come from Windows Central journalist Jez Corden and YouTuber and podcaster Nate The Hate, both known for reliable industry insights.
Rumors about a Fallout 3 remaster first surfaced in September 2023 after leaked court documents from the Microsoft vs FTC case revealed a list of ZeniMax Media projects planned around 2020. Fallout 3 Remaster was included among them. Since then, multiple insiders have repeatedly stated that Bethesda is working on the project. With Amazon Prime’s Fallout Season 2 approaching, these rumors have gained momentum once again.
On January 5, fans noticed a locked countdown on the Fallout Season 2 website’s Explorer section. The timer ends on February 4, the day the season finale airs. While it may simply reveal new interactive content or behind-the-scenes material, the countdown has sparked speculation within the Fallout community.
X user PastorXbox suggested the countdown could hint at a Fallout 3 remaster announcement. In response, Nate The Hate confirmed that Fallout 3 Remaster is planned, though he is unsure about its reveal timeline.
Jez Corden later clarified that the countdown is unlikely to result in a surprise Fallout release. However, he added that a Fallout 3 remake similar to Oblivion Remastered is expected in the future, with Fallout New Vegas potentially included as well.
There is still no official confirmation from Bethesda, Obsidian, or Xbox. However, the massive success of Oblivion Remastered, which attracted over four million players in under a week, makes another Fallout revival highly likely. Bethesda director Todd Howard has also acknowledged fan demand, stating in late 2025 that multiple projects are currently in development.
