Highlights
  • Minecraft enthusiasts propose turning loading screens into fun mini-games, inspired by the Armored Paws update's armadillo theme.
  • The idea gains traction on Reddit, with users suggesting ways to make waiting for Minecraft launchers more enjoyable through interactive loading screens.

A clever Minecraft enthusiast has put forward an idea that could add an element of fun to the loading screens of Mojang’s popular sandbox game. This player’s innovative suggestion aims to make the waiting time more enjoyable for users of the game’s PC launcher. While Mojang may not always acknowledge such ideas, the Minecraft community consistently shares creative concepts to enhance the beloved sandbox experience.

Since its original 1.0 launch 13 years ago, Minecraft has undergone a continuous stream of updates, each bringing significant enhancements and revamps to its core gameplay. Recently, Mojang introduced the Armored Paws update, fulfilling numerous player requests and adding exciting new content to the blocky survival world. This update dubbed a “drop” by Mojang, introduced the 2023 Mob Vote winner, armadillos, along with wolf armor and diverse regional wolf variations. Interestingly, a subtle addition not mentioned in the update notes was a new loading screen themed around armadillos, exclusively for the Java Edition Minecraft launcher on PC. This innovation caught the attention of a creative Minecraft enthusiast who saw potential in expanding upon this quirky loading screen concept.

A Reddit user named AccessProfessional37 shared an idea on the r/Minecraft subreddit, proposing that Mojang transform the recently added armadillo-themed loading screen into a game similar to Google Chrome’s dinosaur game. This suggestion draws inspiration from Chrome’s well-known easter egg, where a dinosaur game appears during internet connection disruptions. Turning the armadillo on the loading screen into a playable obstacle-hopping mini-game would provide fans with entertainment while waiting for the Minecraft launcher to start up.

Many Minecraft enthusiasts agreed with AccessProfessional37’s concept in the post’s comment section. For example, Reddit user Rukawork mentioned that they initially believed the armadillo on the loading screen could be maneuvered using the keyboard’s arrow keys. However, their attempt resulted in disappointment when nothing happened. Another Redditor, Nova17Delta, also supported the idea, highlighting the potential for players to achieve high scores given the lengthy loading times of the new launchers. Commenter Cesis_Adiv even proposed starting a petition among Minecraft fans to persuade Mojang to incorporate this feature into the game.

Although loading screens have become less troublesome in recent years due to the rise of SSDs, they can still occasionally appear and be minor inconveniences. While they are often seen as drawbacks, many games feature excellent and distinctive loading screens. Adding a mini-game to a loading screen, similar to Minecraft’s concept, might seem trivial but would significantly enhance the overall experience.
